In Lebanese Arabic, the word “destiny” is the same as the word “cucumber” in Egyptian Arabic.
What is destiny? What do you think of when you hear this word, “destiny?”
I’m going to make a statement, and you can disagree with it. Destiny is now.
Sometimes we think that life is still to come – but life is right now. We could die tomorrow. So if you live your life waiting for tomorrow, nothing will ever happen. You will waste your life, basically.
If you want to consider yourself a world changer, you’d better change the world today and not wait for tomorrow. So if you want to change the world – when should you change the world? Now. Please, if this is what you want to do – don’t wait. Think about this, hundreds of thousands of people your age are wasting their lives because they have nothing to live for.
I know a guy who has met many girls, and for each one he says, “maybe I will meet another girl and she will be better! I better wait.” No girls seem to be good enough for him. Now, is he good enough for any of these girls? I doubt it.
Jeremiah 1:4-10
Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations." Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth." But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a youth'; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the LORD." Then the LORD put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the LORD said to me, "Behold, I have put my words in your mouth. See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant."
Now imagine this is you and God says this to you. What would you do if you were him?
I would do it. I would feel very privileged and happy.
In one way I’d be very excited because God chose me to speak out for His people. In another way I’d be depressed because I can’t do my own plans. I have to do what He tells me to do.
If you don’t have a dream, you don’t have tomorrow.
Think back as far as you can remember – what was that dream?
We’re going to be talking about David and his dream and what happened in his life.
Ladis Aires (British woman who wants to go to China to be a missionary but they don’t let her because she’s young and has no qualifications so she goes on her own and lives with a woman who is also British and she works with orphan kids – suddenly the woman dies and she continues working with the kids and learns the language. She even gets a high place with the important authorities in China. Then a war comes and she’s supposed to leave the country but she doesn’t. The bombing starts where she lives so she takes a lot of kids and runs away. In the end she ends up with 200 kids that need to reach 1 mountain to another mountain and she saves all the kids. True story).
You asked us what are dreams were when we were young, you didn’t ask us what our dreams are now.
1 Samuel 16:18
One of the young men answered, "Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a man of good presence, and the LORD is with him."
What did this man do most of his life? Literally, he was looking after his daddy’s sheep. God speaks to Samuel and says to anoint a son of Jesse to be king. So Samuel goes and looks at all of them. This one? Noooo waaaay!
In this book, the dreams are not recorded what were the dreams in David’s heart.
Make a Timeline (Life line)
What experiences have you had that were life giving to you?
What were you created to do?
Why were these experiences meaningful to you?
What experiences do you feel disqualify you or discourage you from pursuing your dreams?
(example: dropping out of high school)
I would like each one of you to look at yourself at least the way the Father sees you.
Write a few experiences in your life – things that really happened to you. And when you look at those things – it’s more than likely you’ll find the threat.
But in these experiences – I want you to look at them from God. So you can see these things His way, not your way. See these things in your life. These experiences brought you to where you are and you can use them to be a better person. We’re all broken people. None of us have it clean.
“soulprint” – a made up word by Ashraf. Your uniqueness. It’s like a fingerprint. It’s what makes you unique. Nobody else has this.
Nobody else can reach this destiny which is designed for you… “if you make the right choices.” If you make the wrong choices, His mercy is there to help you back.
Matthew 16:16-18
Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
What would Jesus give you as a name? What name would he give you if he sees you? I’d really like you to think about this. What are the marks? What is the print that he would use to give you a different name. And the name carries the meaning. What I see in you carries the name.
Jesus knew that Peter would deny him 3 times before the cock crows. Did this stop Jesus from giving him a new name? Did this stop Peter from moving through his destiny? Don’t worry about your failures. They can be good stones in the way. What matters is who you are.
